About Us

The Company

Sea Kayak Milos and Petrinela's Guesthouse are owned and operated by Rod Feldtmann and Petrinela Vikeli.  They live on Milos year round and have three children, Anna and Alexia and Perros.   Aged 8, 7 and 3, it is hard to get them to all look at the camera, at once.

Petrinela comes from a local family and was born and raised on Milos.  After school she moved to Athens and obtained a degree in Tourism Administration.  She worked for a while in the hotel industry in Athens, before retreating to the quiet life of the islands.

Petrinela manages the family operated Kafeneio (Coffee-Ouzo bar) and the Guesthouse business, in-between her motherly tasks.  She enjoys spending time with her extended family, quiet nights at home and the occasional weekend adventure.  In winter she likes to get away, to Australia or South Thailand for "an endless summer".

The Guides

Rod Feldtmann (company founder, owner, operator, coach and guide)

Rod is from a farming family in Victoria, Australia.  After graduating with a degree in Geology from the University of Wollongong, he worked for 10 years as an Exploration Geologist in Australia, South America and Milos.  In year 2000, when his contract as a Geologist came to an end, Rod established Sea Kayak Milos as a means to remain on Milos, sustain his family and to enjoy the great outdoors.  The aim of the business was, and still is,  to provide affordable sea-kayaking holidays, in a fantastic location, to people of all abilities.

With 10 years experience leading trips on Milos and to other places in Greece, he is the most experienced and qualified guide in Greece.  He regularly travels to the UK to attend British Canoe Union (BCU) training courses.  He holds his 5 star sea kayak proficiency certificate and is a Level 4 sea kayak coach with the BCU.    see Rods paddling resume.

Dave Watson (Assistant guide, June 2010)

Having been a recreational paddler for many years the opportunity of kayaking in the warm waters of the Mediterranean, first as a client and then as Rod's assistant has been fantastic.  2010 will be my second time helping Rod; I've been on the Santorini and round Milos Expeditions and with many day trips on Milos have good knowledge of the island. The trips are always different - the weather, the scenery the company and unforgettable beach lunches prepared by Rod and Petrinela.

I enjoy the journey and exploration when kayaking and even on a day trip there's always something around the next headland to discover.  When not paddling in Milos I spend alot of time on the west coast of Scotland, again camping and tripping - 2 weeks and 300 kms up the west coast to Cape Wrath, 7 days and 200kms around Raasay and Rona, Isle of Skye and further afield trips to the East Coast of Greenland amongst icebergs, big winds and swell off the Coast of Spain and various day trips on Majorca.
